THREE DEFENDANTS SENTENCED TO A TOTAL OF OVER 26 YEARS FOR DARK WEB DRUG TRAFFICKING
Jenny Burgess and Page Nyame successfully prosecuted the group of three who over a period of 13 months supplied drugs for an OCG operating a dark web marketplace called Business Class. The operation involved the posting of hundreds of packages a week to customers all over the world.
The investigation began when packets of Tesco granola and Cura Heat packed with 2kg MDMA were seized by Australian border force. These were traced to the first defendant who led surveillance officers to the other two defendants who were employed packing and posting drugs under his direction.
Analysis of the dark web marketplace showed that a smorgasbord of drugs of all classes were being offered for sale, with customers invited to post reviews and give ratings for the quality of the drugs and their delivery.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Cybercrime Unit and prosecuted by Karen Sturman of the CPS Complex Casework Unit.
