MAHESH KARU SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS A YOUNG MAN CHARGED WITH WOUNDING WITH INTENT
The defendant, a 19-year-old man, was charged with s.18 wounding with intent following a fight, captured on CCTV, near Willesden Junction. The defendant was seen to take an item from his bag and strike the complainant 5 times in the back, during a brawl near a bus stop. The complainant suffered 5 puncture wounds.
It was argued that the defendant did not intend to cause really serious harm and, in any event, was acting in self-defence against a group of 4.
The jury acquitted the defendant of s.18 and the lesser alternative of s.20.
