ATTEMPTED MURDER CONVICTION SECURED

Sally Mertens, led by Kate Bex KC of Red Lion Chambers, represented the Crown in the successful prosecution of Rapper Nathan Tokosi, who performed under the name DigDat, for attempted murder following a trial at the Central Criminal Court. He was found to be one of the individuals involved in a drive-by shooting in which the victim was shot at six times to the head in Notting Hill in November 2023.

A small amount of DNA evidence connected Nathan Tokosi with the Audi used in the shooting. The case involved the reliability of senior forensic scientists’ conclusions as to the minimum number of contributors in complex mixed DNA profiles which inevitably involves a degree of subjective analysis.  It was an interesting case, on the cutting edge of objective/subjective DNA analysis.
