POLICE OFFICER FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULTING FARE DODGER

Mark Gadsden secured the conviction of a police officer who grabbed a 15-year-old girl by the neck after she had passed through the barriers at Camden Road Station without paying for a ticket.

The incident was caught on CCTV, where the officer could be seen placing the girl into a headlock and then restraining her against the wall by holding her by the neck. The officer denied he had done anything improper and claimed that he had been acting lawfully in restraining her as he did, but was found guilty of assault by beating at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on the 8th October 2025. The officer will be sentenced on the 13th November 2025.

Mark Gadsden was instructed by Gemma Burns of the Complex Case Unit of the Crown Prosecution Service.
