CORRUPT BANK MANAGER SENTENCED TO 5½ YEARS

Mark Paltenghi, leading Amy Oliver, successfully prosecuted a corrupt bank manager at Southwark Crown Court for his part in a conspiracy to defraud.

The defendant, Rukon Miah, abused his role as a business bank manager at Barclays to enable the opening of hundreds of bank accounts under the guise of sham sole trader businesses. The bank accounts were intended to be used for the laundering of funds obtained by fraud against individuals, companies and charities. By the time of his arrest, almost £7 million of stolen funds had been laundered through the accounts.

The jury convicted the defendant after a 3-week trial, and on 14 February 2025 he was sentenced to 5½ years’ imprisonment.
