CONVICTIONS SECURED

Following a 2-month trial at the Old Bailey, three defendants were convicted today in respect of the murder of a 25-year-old man and the false imprisonment of his mother.  Riches Obi was stabbed to death and his mother, Bernadette Ortet, was bound with cable ties in her bedroom at their flat in Elephant and Castle in November 2020.  Jurick Croes was convicted of the murder of Riches Obi, and he and his co-defendants, Raichell Felomina and Suvenca Martis, were found guilty of falsely imprisoning Bernadette Ortet.  Miss Martis was also convicted of perverting the course of justice.  The offences were motivated by disagreements arising from a sham marriage scheme in which Bernadette Ortet and the defendants were involved. HHJ Lickley KC will sentence all three defendants on 2nd July 2024.

Tom Nicholson, led by Jennifer Knight KC, was instructed by the CPS London Homicide Team.
