CONVICTIONS IN CYBER FRAUD CASE
Two men were convicted at Southwark Crown Court last week in a cyber fraud conspiracy following a trial prosecuted by John Ojakovoh, as Leading Counsel. The two men led an organised crime group responsible for hacking into accounting firms’ computers to make fraudulent claims to HMRC for the repayment of more than half a million pounds of taxpayers’ self-assessment income tax. The jury convicted unanimously on all counts. Two co-defendants had previously pleaded guilty to laundering the proceeds of the fraud. Sentencing for all four defendants has been adjourned to January 2025.
John Ojakovoh was instructed as Leading Counsel for the prosecution by Sian Mitchell of the CPS Serious Economic Organised Crime and International Directorate (SEOCID).
