Nicole Shaw

Nicole accepts instructions to defend and prosecute across Chambers’ areas of expertise. She has a busy and varied Crown Court practice, with experience beyond her call in serious crime, drugs, fraud, sexual offences, and violence. As well as her standard practice, she has appeared in a wide-range of matters such as an application for an interim slavery and trafficking risk order and confiscation enforcement. She has been instructed in a variety of capacities, including by organisations such as the Insolvency Service.

 

Nicole has experience in sensitive work, including working as independent counsel advising on matters of legal professional privilege. She has also represented vulnerable defendants across various stages of the criminal justice system and accepts instructions in the Magistrates’ and Youth Courts.

 

Recent cases/instructions include:

 

R v A (Wood Green Crown Court, 2025) – led junior, prosecuted a case of attempted murder and secured a conviction.

R v K (Harrow Crown Court, 2025) – junior alone, prosecuted a case of fraud by abuse of position and secured a conviction.

R v P (Aylesbury Crown Court, 2025) - junior alone, defended in a trial of dangerous driving, criminal damage, and assault, securing an acquittal on all counts.

R v R (Central Criminal Court - Nightingale, 2024) - junior alone, defended in a domestic violence trial concerning two counts of intentional strangulation and two counts of common assault, and secured an acquittal on all counts.

R v G (Wood Green Crown Court, 2024) - junior alone, represented a vulnerable client at trial in a case of burglary and going equipped, and secured an acquittal on all counts.

R v K (Portsmouth Crown Court, 2024) - prosecuted an appeal against sentence in relation to the imposition of notification requirements in a case of indecent exposure and secured a dismissal.

 

Nicole volunteers for the Schools Consent Project and as a mentor for State2Bar and Young Legal Aid Lawyers.
