Gillian has extensive experience in criminal law and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2011. She is instructed in many serious high profile cases. Gillian prosecutes and defends cases of a complex nature across the criminal spectrum. She specialises in murder and has a particular reputation and expertise in serious sex crime.
Gillian prosecutes and defends cases of a highly sensitive nature, including serial paedophiles in positions of trust who exploit social media platforms and the most serious cases of child cruelty with expertise in ‘baby shaking’ cases.
Gillian is a skilful advocate dealing with highly vulnerable witnesses including children, those suffering with severe mental health issues, witnesses who struggle to communicate. She has a particular interest and is skilled in cases involving scientific, medical and psychiatric issues.
Gillian has significant experience in complex issues of third party disclosure. She has lectured to the Bar and wider profession on issues such as disclosure and Section 41 of the YJCEA 1999 (cross-examination of complainants in sex crime) and has been invited to talk on Radio 4 (Law in Action and Woman’s Hour) and ‘TV for Education’.
