Member of Chambers Profile

Subhankar Banerjee

Year of Call: 2000

Subhankar – known as Shub – prosecutes and defends in the most serious cases, including those involving allegations of historic sexual abuse, rape, drug trafficking, armed robbery and attempted murder.

Over 15 years, he has built a practice based on thorough preparation, early advice and effective courtroom advocacy.  He is able to cut through case material to identify the central issues in the most difficult cases and to focus submissions on the key strengths of his case.

He is instructed to defend and prosecute in the most serious sex cases, involving child abuse, gang rape, and allegations arising from Operation Yewtree – the wide-ranging investigation into sexual offences at the BBC.  He has been on the list of those authorised to prosecute rape and serious sexual offences for six years.

Shub is known for his deft manner in the questioning of child witnesses – recognised now as a specialist skill – treating them with respect and courtesy, whilst adducing necessary evidence.  He is also adept in the handling of technical evidence, such as cell-site and DNA analysis.

His jury speeches have received particular praise - from clients, judges and opponents alike - for their thorough analysis and engaging manner.

Shub has received Security Clearance to enable him to work with sensitive government material.
